Wow. Just a great big, amazing wow. This book was phenomenal. So different from any other story I've read!!
Dessie has left the bright city lights of NYC to attend college in a small Texas town. With her perfect family and their perfect careers in the theater industry, Dessie was lost. Adrift, trying to find her place on the stage of life. It was like she'd been screaming at the top of her lungs but no one could hear her.
And then she met him... Clayton Watts, and ironically he couldn't hear her - literally. Yet when she sang, he knew she sounded terrific! He is everything you could imagine in a brooding bad boy and so much more. Their passion, the push and pull of their relationship will tug at your heartstrings, pulling them in every direction.
I loved every single thing about this book. The writing was off the charts perfection. I literally felt like I was on the stage with Dessie, and running the lights with Clayton.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good love story. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

I truly love to discover a new author to me and with Read My Lips I am now firmly a fan of Daryl Banner.

This lovely little love story involving Clayton and Dessie is the perfect summer read. Both characters are trying to make their way in the world on their own terms. Dessie, who comes from a successful theater family and is often made to feel as if she doesn't deserve her famous last name. And Clayton, the hot, brooding assistant lighting director who lost his hearing as a young man and who so desperately wants those around him to know that is he so much more than just the deaf guy.

With theater at a Texas college as the background, we get to watch as both Dessie and Clayton not only struggle with their burgeoning feelings for each other but how to juggle harsh opinions from others that threaten to hold them back, both on the stage and in life.

What I loved most was the realism that I felt while reading. The characters are beautifully written and age-appropriate. They stumble and they fall but they find that strength from within to battle both the demons deep inside and those on the outside in the form of classmates, stage managers and those vying for key roles in the latest production. And even though some were downright awful to both Dessie and Clayton, they were necessary evils in our couple's quest to find real happiness.

This book flows well and you can't help but get completely wrapped up in this story-line. There is great use of ASL and the author took the time to do his research and the frustrations with being hearing-impaired. Both Dessie and Clayton have their issues but it was heartwarming to be front-row and center as their love blossomed and they figured out they were worthy from the very start. Their passion for each other is evident but it wasn't overdone. Sex scenes were tastefully hot and never gratuitous!

If you enjoy college romance at it's best, then I urge you to give this one a try. I'm very happy that we will be getting Brant's story next since this is a cast of characters I really enjoyed. And with any luck, we'll get updates on Clayton and Dessie as well.

This is the first book of Daryl Banner's that I've read but it definitely won't be the last. Details upon details create such wonderful pictures of the characters in your head but don't seem overdone in the least. The knowledge of the theater is amazing but not difficult to follow and the reader is left with the feeling of an insider's view without having to do the work.

Dessie is just a girl trying to live her life without the pomp and circumstance that being a Lebeau brings in theater world. Moving from New York to Texas was her newest attempt at leaving the limelight behind. Trying to stand on your own two feet can be difficult though when your family is as known as Dessie's. Keeping quiet about her family and finding herself is not easy.

Clayton doesn't have it easy either. After going deaf when he was12 Clayton is hell bent on succeeding as his is. No excuses. And he doesn't want to let anyone get in his way, including the beautiful transfer student. All it takes is a few signs to screw with his plan.

Read My Lips is a well plotted, well written story with likeable, diverse characters. Sweet moments and sexy moments string together with a sprinkling of drama to create an enjoyable read. I'm already looking forward to stories for the other characters.
This is the first book I have read by Daryl Banner and I went in hoping for the best. After reading some disappointing books by new authors recently I was a in serious need of a book that would be worthy of a 5 star rating and would hit me right in the feels. Banner delivered!! Dessie is a college student trying to be her own person at a new school after some mishaps in her past and the unwanted attention she gets from having a famous family. At a party one night she tries to talk to a hot guy who completely blows her off. After a few unsuccessful run ins with the hottie she finds out his name is Clayton , and he was not blowing her off-he's deaf. Dessie and Clayton both try to step out of their comfort zones to communicate with each other and a relationship is born. Both have insecurities and self esteem issues of sorts, but together they find ways to support and bring out the best in each other. This book had many things that I enjoy in a book including hot guy with tattoos, romance, a little humor, steam, a HEA, a well written story line and a writing style that I just "clicked" with from the get go. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment in this series!
